A “terrain” footbike should be able to go almost anywhere. However, there is one model that is not stopped by any terrain – the Kostka Monster. You may have already come across earlier versions of this model, but our company’s development team has been working 24/7 so that we can now present its latest iteration, the Kostka Monster Max Dog (G6) – a “fat footbike” prepared for riding with your canine buddy or even with two tireless draught dogs. However, you can also, of course, ride the Monster alone. It’s probably best to leave your Chihuahua or Yorkshire terrier at home when you head off for the nearest pump track or mountain trails. Cyclists won’t believe their eyes and they will be happy to let you go in front of them. We have created a monster…
The KOSTKA MONSTER MAX DOG (G6) has retained the best features from the original Monster, but it also comes with some excellent innovations. The biggest changes have occurred in the front fork. It has been reinforced and mounted in a tapered headset, so the footbike now has tangibly greater rigidity. And if that weren’t enough, we have also modified its geometry for a more stable ride and a better steering response. Increased rigidity has also been achieved by strengthening the frame in the area of the deck surface, which has been expanded on both sides in the Dog version. Moreover, there are also screw pins in the middle of the deck, so your shoes will find enough grip in all weathers.
Those large black circles really may look like floats, but they aren’t. The four-inch fatbike tyres work like tank tracks – their surface “spreads out” over the terrain so that not even deep mud, fresh snow or a loose surface, such as deposits from Czech rivers or sea beaches, will get the better of you.
We have also focussed on modifying our Kostka hubs, because the wheels are among the most important components on any footbike. The new internal layout has enabled the use of bearings with a bigger diameter which are better able to resist even the toughest deployment in heavy terrain. We use Japanese maintenance-free NTN industrial bearings. Our 12 mm diameter fixed axles are yet another element that increases both the overall and torsional rigidity of the frame on the Kostka Monster Max Dog (G6) footbike. The only component that flexes is the bulbous tyres and that is kind of in their job description.
No matter whether you intend to make use of the “services” of draught dogs or to ride alone down mountain trails, you will always need reliable brakes. The hydraulic disc brakes, the only correct choice for this footbike, come from the Shimano workshops in Japan – they are the tried-and-tested Shimano Deore model with 180 mm discs.
The slightly oversized bike handlebars equipped with non-slip rubber grips are mounted in an extremely short, rigid stem, which, when combined with the new geometry, makes the steering lighter and more precise in every terrain. The Dog musher version is equipped with a dog lead holder integrated into the main tube under the handlebars. The footbike is supplied with an easy-to-remove lead adapter made of sprung steel, plus a lockable lead. The lead complies with the standards prescribed by both Czech and international associations. This means that you and your dog can head off to a mushing race as soon as you have unpacked your new machine.
And our final word? The new Monster in Army Green is simply irresistible! 🙂
